Another fabulous Colorado summer weekend, come and gone. We packed up the whole family (including Avery!) and headed to Winter Park for the weekend. Our good friend, and mom I nannied for all through college and grad school, let us borrow their house for the weekend. It was so relaxing and peaceful there, and nice to be away from the craziness of Denver life for a minute. And no T.V. for 2 whole days! Simply wonderful.
The house itself was beautiful, and surrounded by nature. We met this little deer the first afternoon we arrived, and she just hung around looking at us for quite a while. Reese instantly fell in LOVE with the deer. I don't know that she had ever really seen one that close-up before. When the deer shook her head, Reese shook her head and tried to imitate her, ridiculously cute. We probably hung out out on the deck watching for about 20 minutes before the deer finally took off. Reese was immediately devastated and crying, yelling "deer, deer" for a while after that. We tried to explain that the deer had to go home now and eat dinner. Didn't help. She's been asking about the deer everyday since, and looking out windows pointing and asking if the deer are outside. Our little girl, budding animal lover.
There was a great free concert in downtown Winter Park on Saturday night that we were excited to check out - Leftover Salmon. We played at the great park in the middle of town for a bit before, which Reese clearly loved climbing all things too tall. After dinner, we gathered on a grassy hill for the concert, and met up with friends - Auntie Ally!
Reese couldn't wait to scramble out of my arms to play with the other kids in the area. She had a ton of fun running around chasing beach balls, rolling down the hill on our blanket, and partaking in the camping chairs we had setup. Reese barely hung out with us at all. She was just enamored with all the older kids running around, and I had a quick glimpse into our not-so-distant future.
Clearly she was impressed. We stayed toward the back, and the sound was perfect - not too loud for little ears but still enjoyable for the rest of us. We stayed way past Reese's bedtime because we were having so much fun. It truly was one of those magical Colorado nights that you only get at the tail end of summer - perfect temperature, not at all chilly, no bugs or humidity and of course, an amazing sunset.
I hope I can hang on to the feeling as we move into August and the last few weeks of summer. I know I have been saying this all the time, but this summer truly has been going by in a flash...feels like the fastest summer of my life. And that feeling is sort of freaking me out. I have another birthday approaching at the end of the month, and then a week after that Reese turns two! Our baby is getting so big. It just feels like we are traveling through life at the speed of light. I was truly thankful this weekend to just breathe in the mountains, enjoying the beautiful space and being surrounded by my loves.
Hope your week is off to a fabulous start!
