How was your weekend? After a tough week, I took a few days away from the screen to get outside! We had a fun weekend seeing friends and enjoying some warmer and drier weather. I had a pretty rough Thursday & Friday stretch at work with resulted in the following items consumed on Friday - a giant gluten-free thin crust bbq chicken pizza from Mod Market and a nuts & chocolate Forager. Not too great, but could have been worse! ! It was shocking how quickly I downed the Forager - it was pretty delicious! But at $6.99 a bottle (eek!) I definitely had a few thoughts - 1) I can't believe I actually spent $7 on this 2) I could totally make this at home and 3) I would leave out the "oat milk" which I don't think is necessary or brings anything to the drink. Going to experiment this week and report back!
Friday night we stopped at a brewery downtown Golden that serves both beer + wine, and a seasonal blackberry cider on tap that is gluten-free and delicious. I definitely need to go back for that again. The best part is, you can bring in your own food from somewhere else, so Nick ran across the street for burgers and sweet potato fries for us. Between the burger and the cider, seeing friends, and the awesome live music, I quickly forgot all about the stress of the week.
Reese loved the perfectly placed giant red hand on the Left Hand Brewery sign, and kept running past it to give it high-fives. Pretty cute. We danced and played with other toddler friends at the brewery. One of the perks of living in a very family friendly town - we definitely weren't the only ones bringing the babes out to the bar!
We headed over to a Kentucky Derby Party/BBQ at our friend's house later that day. We arrived with about 2 minutes to spare before the derby started. The weather was beautiful so we spent the rest of the time outside. Reese put her gardening skills to work, and picked weeds and rocks for probably an hour before returning inside in search of other things to get into. After exploring the kitchen, she selected some cook books to browse through:
A little chef in training maybe? Ha!
Sunday we had a lazy morning reading books in bed before heading out to run errands. We made a park stop and a Whole Foods run, all without incident from Reese. I was bummed to find that WF was out of ALL boxed salads and spinach due to the drought conditions in California! Wow, summer hasn't even started yet. But conditions are serious there, I only hope and pray they can get some rain. And we have no greens in the fridge currently - it just feels wrong. Gotta fix that ASAP.
As much as I wanted to have a nap with Reese on Sunday, I busted out some work on the blog and email, and then did a 40 minute Barre 3 workout inside. I have been doing Barre 3 online workouts since my pregnancy and I love it still. They are simple to do at home, low impact, but really tough! After falling off the wagon with Barre 3 the last few weeks, it was a serious burner and I felt like jello afterward - and starving. I was ready for dinner by 5:00, so instead of cooking we headed out for chicken fajitas and guac, so good. Perfect end to a fun weekend.
Lots of things planned for this week, including a special Cinco de Mayo post (but really Mexican food is always a good idea), and my favorite resources for Hashimoto's (or any auto-immune disease or anyone just trying to eat/live more healthfully.)
Hope you have a great start to your week! Hang in there, Monday only lasts a day:)
